A three-year-old girl was attacked by a dog in an incident that seriously injured her mum, with investigations into the incident currently ongoing with police appealing for information.

The attack happened shortly before 4pm on January 8 on Monmouth Drive in Glen Parva, Leicester. A 28-year-old woman and her daughter were bitten by the dog, which is believed to be a pit bull, as the pair were walking down the street. The woman suffered serious puncture wounds to one of her arms in the incident.

Her daughter, who is just three, was left with minor bruising. Members of the public came to mother and daughter’s aid in the immediate aftermath of the attack, and the dog was detained until police arrived and is now in a secure kennel. In a statement, police said the owner of the dog has now been traced and is being spoken to by officers.

Investigations into the biting are ongoing and cops have appealed for witnesses to come forward. Sergeant Nathan Birkin, from the South Leicester Neighbourhood Policing Area, said: “The investigation into the incident is ongoing and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw the incident or assisted the woman and her daughter but has not yet spoken to police.
