An eight-year-old boy was grazed by a rogue bullet during a horror New Year's Eve celebratory gunfire.
A family in Missouri City, Texas, US, was left shocked and terrified as an irresponsible and wreckless act ruined their lovely evening and more worryingly nearly cost their child his life. Olly and Alyssa Summers were joyfully counting down the last ten seconds of 2023, in the company of their close friends at a party they were hosting in their house.
A video captured the joyful contingent cheering and embracing as the clock struck midnight, but the festivities took a sinister turn when a bullet smashed through the window and hit the couple's son's elbow.

Luckily, the shot, which landed on the living room table, left the scared boy physically unharmed. However, understandably, his parents are deeply concerned with what could've happened.

The bullet could've severely injured the child (KTRK)Feeling the need to speak out against New Year's Eve gunfire celebrations, the Summers family sat down for an interview with ABC13. The boy's mum, Alyssa, was extremely upset that her son was hurt in a place where he shouldn't have to feel any danger.
She said: "Your home should be where your kids feel safest. The fact that this happened in our living room makes it really discouraging."
Luckily, the 8-year-old was not hit directly. While his elbow was cut, it was only from a ricochet or a shard of glass. Luckily, he did not require medical attention. His mother added: "He was on the couch holding his elbow. It was bleeding."
The parents were deeply concerned with what the bullet could've done (KTRK)Ultimately, while New Year's gunfire is entertaining for those who enjoy watching it, this recent incident confirms that it can have dangerous consequences, which is why the boy's father, Olly, wants it to be eradicated.
He said: "This is just very irresponsible," Olly said. "This was a traumatic event with a bunch of our friends over here. My son's injured, and there's a hole in our house because of someone being irresponsible."
In a bid to find out whether an investigation has commenced, ABC13 reached out to the Forst Bend County Sheriff's Office. However, they are yet to receive a response.
