New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has dismissed continued speculation about his future as the team's head coach.

Belichick was first appointed as head coach of the Patriots in 2000 and is nearing the end of his 24th season in charge of the team in the NFL. New England stands at 4-12 heading into Week 18 of the regular season and had already been eliminated from playoff contention, where AFC East divisional rivals the New York Jets are their opponents.

The Patriots are guaranteed to have a losing season for only the fourth time in Belichick's tenure as head coach. It will also be the third time in the past four seasons that the 71-year-old has been left with a losing record at the end of the year.

As a result of a disappointing season in Foxborough, Belichick's position as head coach and de facto general manager has been the subject of speculation. Throughout the season, there has been speculation that Belichick's time at the club could be coming to an end.

Belichick appeared on The Greg Hill Show on Tuesday, where he was asked about his future at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots head coach gave a defiant response and explained why is only focused on preparing the team to face the Jets on Sunday.

"Whatever success I have had, I've tried to go about my job the same way every week - win, lose, good years, bad years, whatever they are," said Belichick.

"Each week, get ready to go for that week, do the best you can to help your team win, and after that game move on to the next one. And at the end of the season, that's the end of the season.

"But on a week-to-week basis, I don't want to spend time, or get caught up in what happened five years ago, or what's going to happen two years from now, and a bunch of other random stuff. Just working on the Jets."

Belichick added: "I'm committed to the team that I'm coaching right now, the players that are here. They deserve my best every day and that's what I'm going to give them."

Even though Belichick's future has been the subject of speculation, news emerged earlier in the season that he signed a new contract with the Patriots. It was reported by NFL Network that Belichick had signed a "lucrative multi-year" contract with the Patriots before the 2023 season began.

During an interview on The David Rubenstein Show in October, Patriots owner Robert Kraft was asked about Belichick's future with the franchise. The interview was recorded last August, two months before news would emerge that Belichick had signed a new deal with the franchise.

“I’ll let you ask him. He has to decide what’s right for him,” said Kraft. It's unclear how long the extension signed by Belichick has the head coach contracted at Gillette Stadium as the 2023 season nears its conclusion.
