A woman in a seaside village says she has been followed by a giant green ball, similar to scenes from classic television show The Prisoner.

Lyn Williams has been plagued by the large PVC ball for nearly two weeks, and first spotted it rolling down a street towards her. The metre-wide ball then mysteriously appeared in her Anglesey garden and later confronted her during a dog walk. Mrs Williams' social media updates about her encounters with the ball have drawn comparisons to the "Rover", a large floating balloon from the TV show The Prisoner which could control and attack inhabitants trying to escape from the fictional Village.

In updates on Facebook, Mrs Williams has nicknamed the green ball the "Giant Sprout" and although she found its constant reappearances spooky, she has laughed them off after finding out the truth. It turned out to be a horse ball, often given to horses as a toy to prevent boredom. Some are used for groundwork exercises, others for games of horse football with riders.

She told the Daily Post: "The first time I saw it, it was trundling down the hill, so I stopped it and took it 'prisoner' in my garden." Later, a very sorry horse owner claimed the Giant Sprout and took it from Mrs Williams' well-kept front garden. A week later, the ball was back in her garden. She didn't know how it got there, but thinks the village has a very active horse who loves football.

She added: "Lo and behold, when I woke up a few days later, it was there again, this time happily sitting in my garden. I guess it came in through my open gate.

"I found it all very funny, though the owner was a bit embarrassed picking it up the second time. They promised it would be kept safe now."

Mrs Williams thought these were just random events, so she forgot about them and enjoyed a Christmas without the ball. But a few days later, the Giant Sprout was back in her life. While walking her dogs along the quiet country lanes she found a road blocked by the same green ball. Mrs Williams took a photo just to make sure she wasn't imagining things.

She wrote on Facebook: "This is getting spooky. I thought I was dreaming. I only decided to go that way at the last minute, so what a coincidence! So strange and funny."

Kindly, she threw the ball into a field with horses. The owners have since told her that the big wanderer is now "safely contained".
