Pep Guardiola has warned his players off social media as a security measure following Jack Grealish’s break-in nightmare.

The Manchester City star’s mansion was burgled - with his partner and family members present - while he was playing in his team’s win at Everton on Wednesday. Guardiola will chat with the England ace to make sure he is in the right state of mind before today’s clash with Sheffield United.

But, in the wake of similar incidents around the country including one involving Grealish’s former team mate Joao Cancelo two years ago, the City boss has told his players to keep a low profile.

He said: “It has happened to United players as well. I don’t much about London but it’s happened (there). They have security but, unfortunately, it’s happened, it’s happened many times. In the UK, in Catalonia where my family lives, many things happen.

“Today you have to be careful, definitely. Not much on social media, the less they know what you are doing the better. People are waiting. Waiting to see where you are. Unfortunately it’s happened with Joao, which was so scary because the family was being attacked.

“Jewellery, money, whatever – it’s tough – but the family being there is tough to process for Jack as it was with Joao before.

‌"There is a big difference between the classes. There are people with a lot of money and people struggling. Today, worldwide, it happens. The people do these kind of things unfortunately for many years already.”

Around £1million of jewellery and watches was reportedly stolen in the burglary. And, although none of his family were injured during the raid, Grealish will only play against the Blades if he is in the right state of mind.

Guardiola added: “He didn’t train on Thursday for the recovery, he was with the family. We are going to see how he feels. We will talk with him and we will see whether he will be in the squad.”
