Pep Guardiola says it's fortunate that nobody was hurt after Jack Grealish's mansion was burgled while his family were inside.

The Manchester City winger's home was targeted by thieves while he played in his team's 3-1 win against Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday, just two days after Christmas Day. His loved ones were watching the Premier League game inside the property when the incident unfolded.

It's claimed that the burglars escaped with items worth a significant amount of cash, with police investigating. Guardiola has expressed his relief that nobody was hurt and confirmed Grealish could be available for Saturday's home game against Sheffield United.

"Fortunately nothing wrong happened where the family was inside," said Guardiola. "It is what it is today in the modern day, with many things happening. It was a bad moment for him and his family but, fortunately, what was not damaged were the people inside."

Cheshire Police have released a statement on the matter. It read: "At around 9.50pm on Wednesday December 27 police were called to reports of a burglary. The caller reported that a number of items had been stolen.

"Officers supported by police dogs and National Police Air Service were deployed and searches were conducted in the local area but there was no trace of the suspects. No arrests have been made at this time and enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police."

Although Grealish's participation on Saturday remains unclear, Guardiola will be without John Stones after he suffered an ankle injury at Everton. Erling Haaland (foot) and Kevin De Bruyne (hamstring) are still continuing their respective recoveries from injury.

Guardiola explained: "Nothing has changed. We have the same injuries plus John Stones." Bottom club Sheffield United are enjoying their best run of the season under returning manager Chris Wilder, picking up four points from his five games in charge. Yet the 3-2 home loss to Luton on Boxing Day was a huge hammer blow for the Blades.

Despite this, Guardiola isn't taking Saturday's game for granted. He said: "Always in the past, we’ve had problems against Sheffield (United). They made an incredible performance against Aston Villa (1-1 draw). They were close to winning the game."

Guardiola then referenced City's recent 2-2 home draw against Crystal Palace. He said: "It will be so so tough - a bit like Crystal Palace. In the last games at home we couldn’t get results, in terms of victories, so we will try to be focused on what we have to do."
