Billie Faiers was forced to make a simple change on her social media after she was slammed for 'bragging about her wealth'.
The TV personality, 33, regularly posts updates about her life on Instagram. Most of her 2.7 million followers enjoy seeing snaps and videos about her lavish lifestyle, but many were quick to accuse her of 'flaunting' her wealth after she went on luxury holidays with her sister and family.
Following posts about her holidays to Greece and Dubai earlier this year, some unimpressed users rushed to the comment section to complain about the content of her page. One troll wrote: "Bragging about your wealth as always," while another said: “How vile you seem to rub your new wealth into people’s faces.. show some compassion for how your followers are struggling at the moment.”
A third added: “I am not hating but it’s sickening when all you do is flaunt your life off on social media and get paid to promote brands that you don’t even use or would never entertain but because they pay you money to endorse their products and make out you use them, you just do it because they pay you money.”
Following a different holiday to Greece, one follower wrote: “Wow more holidays?? How come you built such a beautiful home, yet never in it… should've just stayed in my original home then!! That's all they needed if constantly on a paid holiday." Leaping to Billie's defence, one fan pointed out: "Sound very jealous love, if you notice they go on holiday in the kids holidays .. just cause they have more holidays than most and can why is that anyone's business they work hard why not enjoy it.”
Sam Faiers defends sleeping in separate room to partner Paul for six yearsEarlier this month, she was criticised for the same reason when she shared a sweet snap of her daughter wearing a £195 coat. And now, to stop cruel trolls from bothering her, she had to turn off the comment section on her posts. This means fans are only able to view and 'like' her newer photos and won't be able to share their opinions on her latest holiday.
The star whisked her family away to the Maldives to enjoy a sunny Christmas with incredible views and relaxing beaches. Her two photos from the idyllic location have the comment section turned off.
Billie is no stranger to social media trolls and previously opened up about how she deals with them. She told OK! magazine: “It’s horrible getting nasty comments on social media, but I feel like I’ve been in the industry so long that I’ve got a second layer of skin to it. I try to delete or block any negativity on my page towards me or my family.
I know it’s not easy for everyone to do that, but that’s the way I try to switch off from it. Social media can be amazing, but there are also not-so-positive things that come from it. It’s hard not to go down a dark rabbit hole and bite back – I often think who actually does things like that [posting nasty comments[. You have to be a certain type of person.”
