Roy Keane has poked fun at Joey Barton 's crusade against women in football while taking part in a quiz.

The Irishman is a regular on the Stick to Football podcast and teamed up with Ian Wright to test his knowledge against Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher. Keane and Wright had to work out who had a longer tenure - David Moyes at Everton or Emma Hayes at Chelsea.

Hayes will end her successful period with the Blues at the end of the season, leaving to take charge of the United States women's national team. Neither Keane nor Wright knew exactly how long she had been in a job though, but were allowed to phone a friend for the answer.

As they mulled it over Keane quipped: "I might ring Joey Barton, Joey will know". The panel all saw the funny side as they chuckled around the table.

Wright, who has been a major advocate of the women's game, eventually phoned up Hayes herself to help get the correct answer. Barton has been particularly active on Twitter over the past week to take aim at the quality of women's football as well as their involvement in the men's game.

Mary Earps was named as the BBC's Sport Personality of the Year last week, the second Lioness to win the award in as many years. The former Manchester City player was less than impressed with Earps scooping the gong and said: "So the best sports person this year is… A Women Goalie.

"Lost in a couple of finals this year. Not won a sausage. So popular that Nike didn’t even sell a replica jersey before tournament. You telling me all those who jumped on that bandwagon, haven’t voted in the BBC nonsense? Good luck to Mary. Hope she makes a few quid."

He also added: "To win before Ronnie O’Sullivan and Frankie Dettori …? Well, that’s just madness to me. Both almost genius like in their respective fields."

Previously Barton had also claimed that women should not be commenting on the men's game. "Women shouldn’t be talking with any kind of authority in the men’s game," he said on social media. "Come on. Let’s be serious. It’s a completely different game. If you don’t accept that. We will always see things differently. The women’s game is thriving. Fantastic to see. I cannot take a thing they say serious in the men’s arena."
