Redknapp claims Klopp will be "disappointed" with Liverpool duo in Arsenal draw

Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Jurgen Klopp will be "disappointed" with Darwin Nunez and Ryan Gravenberch after the Liverpool duo failed to make an impact from the bench against Arsenal.

Nunez and Gravenberch were introduced alongside Harvey Elliott in the 68th minute as Liverpool chased a winner after Mohamed Salah cancelled out Gabriel's early header. However, Jurgen Klopp's side were unable to find the all-important second goal, with the match ending 1-1.

This means Liverpool will head into Christmas Day in second, one point behind leaders Arsenal. The Reds had opportunities to win the game, with Trent Alexander-Arnold arguably missing their best chance as his effort crashed off the bar, though the ball did bobble up as he was about to shoot.

After the match, ex-Liverpool midfielder Redknapp admitted the Reds will be frustrated with the result but believes Klopp will be "disappointed" of Nunez and Gravenberch, in particular. "There will be a hint of disappointment I would say, especially after last week," he told Sky Sports.

"If they had beaten Manchester United last week and drawn today, taking four points from those two games, you would be relatively happy. The fact that they have drawn the last two, Jurgen Klopp will be slightly disappointed.

"He brought his subs on in (Ryan) Gravenberch and (Darwin) Nunez but they didn’t make an impact, that will be a disappointment attacking the Kop End in the second half.

"They had the one big opportunity with Trent Alexander-Arnold, the one player you would like it to fall to in that position. I think Mikel Arteta will certainly be the happier of the two managers."

Jurgen Klopp also delivered his verdict on the game. He said: "I saw top teams, that’s what I saw. What does that say about City, Tottenham, Aston Villa? Nothing. They are top teams as well, and others as well who maybe have a little bit less points but are there as well.

"I just saw two really good football teams, a really good game, super-intense. Top, top, top moments for us; could have won, maybe should have won. In all the interviews I had so far, I forgot completely Trent’s [shot off the] crossbar. That’s why I said, ‘I’m not sure, they could have [won]’ but with that chance we should have won the game. I only realised that when I had the radio interview.

"Besides that, they had the better start, we came super back in the game. Anfield was outstanding tonight, I think everybody felt it. It was brutal. It was really nice to see what we can do all together."
