Harry Redknapp claimed Curtis Jones could ‘walk into almost any’ Premier League side after his starring role for Liverpool vs West Ham.

The Reds’ academy graduate scored twice as his side secured a dominant 5-1 success against the Hammers at Anfield. His first was a brilliant finish from a tight angle to double Liverpool’s lead.

Jones rounded off the scoring late on with another eye-catching solo effort. They were his first two goals of a campaign in which he has started just ten games for Liverpool this season.

However, Redknapp predicts Jones to now emerge as more of a key player for Liverpool and has claimed he could be starting for most sides in the top flight. Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “He could go and walk into almost any team in the Premier League and play there but he obviously wants to stay and win his place at Liverpool. It looks like a matter of time before he gets that regular berth in the team. He looks too good not to play.”

Redknapp was not the only one impressed with Jones’ display. His son and ex-Anfield skipper Jamie was also on punditry duty on Sky Sports and compared the academy graduate to Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard.

He said: “When Curtis Jones was a young player, Steven Gerrard was trying to cut his teeth coaching. He would have seen Steven was his coach, that little goal today when he played it around the corner that was Steven Gerrard-esque and he'd have probably worked on that in training and seen it. That's what you need, good role models, people that set great examples every day in training.”

Jurgen Klopp was also asked about Jones’ performance against West Ham and claimed that the England under-21 exceeded his expectations. “He did even better [than he has in recent months], to be honest, because he added in his game the acceleration with the ball, which is really important,” he said.

“You cannot do that against each opponent, but there are some opponents where you can do it, when you pass the first line then you have to go with the ball. His second goal is now a crazy goal because you go pretty much towards the penalty spot from where he scored, that's pretty rare, but it's an important thing for him to do. Yes, it was a really good game.

“He looked super-fresh, which is probably not surprising because he didn't now play thousands of minutes in recent weeks. In general, the performance was just good.”

Liverpool have been drawn to face Fulham in the Carabao Cup semi-finals after their win against Fulham. Jones will hope to have also done enough to play against Arsenal this weekend.
