Michael Owen has been told he is "talking rubbish" when it comes to Harry Kane's summer transfer to Bayern Munich by ex- Manchester United man Paul Ince.

Earlier this month, Owen insisted that Kane made the wrong call by leaving Tottenham to join the German giants. Though the lack of a trophy was often a stick used to beat Kane with, Owen feels that any trophy won with Bayern will be 'meaningless'.

He also questioned Kane's decision to walk away from the race to break the Premier League goals record, something he looked on course to do while still at Spurs. However, Ince has since spoke out in defence of the move to Munich and made clear what he thinks of Owen's assessment.

Speaking to DAZN, the ex-United ace claimed: "I think Michael Owen's comments on the Bundesliga are very unfair. A title is a title. Bayern aren't even top of the Bundesliga. There's also the threat of Dortmund, Leipzig, and Stuttgart. It's not as easy as people think. Bayern barely won it last year.

"The Bundesliga is getting tougher. Any player who moves abroad and wins the league title has achieved something in my eyes. Bayern have won the Bundesliga every year since 2011, but they're judged on how they fare in the Champions League. I fancy them as winners every year, especially when they had Lewandowski."

The only Premier League side linked with a move for Kane was United, who went on to meet Bayern in the group stage of this season's Champions League. The Three Lions skipper actually scored in the game at the Allianz, before providing Kingsley Coman's winner at Old Trafford last week.

Ince addressed those games, adding: "I saw them against Manchester United and I think Bayern will have a big chance of winning [the Champions League]. If you ask me, Michael Owen is talking a load of rubbish! Harry Kane is loving life, scoring goals, and playing well. He went to Germany for silverware, and it'll be great if he achieves that."

Kane has enjoyed a sensational start to life in the Bundesliga, with a remarkable 20 goals and five assists to his name already in just 14 league appearances. The 30-year-old has bettered the tally of last season's Golden Boot winner Niclas Fullkrug, which was 16.
