A mum drowned after being swept away while saving a dog from a river - as her husband desperately battled to rescue her.
An inquest has heard how Gail Theresa Lloyd tragically died after attempting to save her dog. The 50-year-old animal lover waded into a fast-flowing river after her dog went in. When out on a walk with her husband, one of their two dogs went into the swollen River Clywedog near Wrexham, North Wales.
Her husband told police the dog had jumped into the water - and that Gail had gone in after it to try and save it. However, she quickly got into difficulty in the water, and her husband also entered the river to try and save her.
The inquest heard the other members of the public assisted and managed to rescue Gail’s husband using a rope. But sadly, Gail herself, a project manager with a finance company, could not be saved. The inquest heard that Gail, of Wrexham, was pronounced dead by paramedics after being brought from the water at Erddig Park on the morning of December 9.
The hearing at County Hall in Ruthin heard early details of the river tragedy before the inquest was adjourned for a later date. Senior coroner John Gittins told the hearing that Gail was unable to be saved and was sadly later pronounced dead at 10.15am.

Pathologist Dr Mark Atkinson gave a provisional cause of death as drowning. The inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
