Mum's pet pooch so big it's dubbed 'Scouse Lion' and people mistake it for bear

A woman’s pet dog is so big that people keep mistaking it for a “bear”.

Charlene Jones is the owner of a huge Tibetan Mastiff named Precious that is so large, when she stands on hind legs, her height is over five foot tall, and she weighs a hefty 70kg or 11 stone.

This is heavier than the average weight of a woman in England.

Charlene, 38, spent around two years researching Tibetan Mastiffs before making the decision to get Precious.

Despite calling Precious her “Scouse Lion”, she said the dog is “brilliant” with other mutts and people.

Although Precious is friendly towards humans, many people have been shocked upon noticing her size when out and about, asking Charlene if she is a bear or a Lion.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo,Charlene said that she was advised to do plenty of research on the breed before committing to getting one as a pet, as they’re “just not for everyone”.

She said: “I've seen so many breeds like this end up in shelters because people don't know how to treat them properly.

“They are a stubborn breed. They're not a breed that you can just wrap your arms around and cuddle. They'll come to you when they want attention."

Charlene said Precious isn’t aggressive, just stubborn, that she does what she wants on her terms and is quite a chilled dog.

She continued: "She loves to lie down and chill by herself."

Charlene also owns a six-month-old French Bulldog, Jurgen, who is tiny in comparison to Precious.

The two dogs live well together in the home they share with Charlene, who has likened her pets to her children and “coping mechanism”, after her daughter left home to go to university.

The dogs take up a lot of Charlene’s time, with Prescious needing to be brushed daily and requiring “proper” grooming once a week, including a shower. Charlene had to take an online course to learn how to groom her pet.
