In the past week, many people will have been setting their goals and priorities for the new year ahead.

But whether it's pledging to kick a bad habit or sticking to a new routine, New Year's Resolutions can be hard to stick to.

And just months before embarking on her early romance with Prince Harry, then-actress Meghan Markle admitted to all the New Year promises she failed to keep - especially "after a few drinks.

Meghan made the confession on her blog lifestyle and travel blog The Tig in January 2016 and she described some of the habits she'd like to give up as "unladylike".

She wrote: "Run a marathon. Stop biting my nails. Stop swearing. Re-learn French. These make my New Year’s resolution list nearly (AKA actually every) single year.

"The marathon hasn't happened. The swearing comes in lulls triggered by being overworked or feeling mighty cheeky after a couple of drinks.

"Then there's the French – a language I studied through high school and then lost as I immersed myself in speaking Spanish with the Argentinians during my stint in Buenos Aires.

"I have put my little Rosetta Stone headset in my eager ears every year, resolving to do interviews en français, but much to my chagrin, it hasn't stuck.

"And when it comes to the biting of the nails – well, it still happens with a turbulent flight or a stressful day. It's unladylike. But then again, so is the swearing. Dammit."

So in a bid not to disappoint herself that year, Meghan decided against making resolutions.

She added: "For this new year, the only thing I aim to do is to approach life playfully. To laugh and enjoy, to keep my standards high but my level of self-acceptance higher.

"My New Year's resolution is to leave room for magic. To make my plans, and be okay if they sometimes break. To set my goals, but to be open to change."

The beginning of 2023 is shaping up to be a turbulent one for Meghan and husband Prince Harry.

In just a few days' time, he will release his eagerly anticipated and explosive memoir Spare.

Tomorrow two interviews for UK and US TV will air and trailers suggest these tell-all chats will also be dramatic.

In the promo for his interview for ITV, Harry talks about wanting his father King Charles and brother Prince William back.

Meanwhile, in the teaser for his interview on CBS News 60 Minutes, Harry criticises Buckingham Palace over an alleged failure to defend him and Meghan before they stepped down as senior royals.
