A fundraiser has been set up to "buy a pint" for a hero Deliveroo driver who helped end the attack on a group of children amid the Dublin riots.
Caio Benicio, 43, is being hailed a hero after subduing the attacker who had injured three children and two adults outside Colaiste Mhuire on Parnell Square on Thursday afternoon. Caio used his motorcycle helmet to get the attacker away from the injured kids.
A GoFundMe has been set up on Friday to "donate pints of Guinness" to Caio and has already exceeded £200,000. The petition reads: "Deliveroo Driver Caio Benicio was on his motorbike when he saw a man with a knife attacking a young girl on Parnell Square East.
"Caio got off his bike, took off his helmet, and hit the attacker with it. The man's a hero and the least we can do is buy him a pint. So I'm asking you to donate the price of a pint of Guinness in your local to Caio so that he knows the people of Dublin appreciate him," reports DublinLive.
Caio was at the scene on his motorcycle when he "saw the guy pulling the teacher, picking up the child", as reported by Otempo newspaper in Brazil. He said: "Man, I threw the bike on the ground and went after the guy. The guy stabbing the girl... I didn't even think about it. I took my helmet off and hit... which knocked the guy down. I think I managed to knock the guy down with the helmet, I hit him in the head."
