BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty breaks silence after studio evacuation

Naga Munchetty has broken her silence and explained the reason why BBC Breakfast was suddenly cut in the middle of a news report this morning.

BBC Breakfast hosts Naga and Charlie Stayt were on presenting duties this morning before they were forced to evacuate the building briefly. The moment of them leaving the studio was not shown on air, as the programme was in the midst of a report on the Concorde.

Fans were left confused as the report on the Concorde's 20th anniversary of its final flight quickly ended and the screen changed to a reporter discussing the Israel-Gaza war in Beirut – as the news reporter was in mid-sentence when the screen changed. As the live broadcast from Beirut continued, the graphics on the screen showed the names of those from the Concorde report – sparking even more bewilderment.

Baffled viewers took to X, previously known as Twitter, to react to the moment as one wrote: "@BBCBreakfast why am I now watching your world news programme? No explanation, just cut to World News for no reason." Another puzzled fan added: "@BBCBreakfast was enjoying concord! If I wanted Gaza war update can switch channels, just cut breakfast team no reason".

And another pointed out the graphics below the reporter in Beirut hadn't changed to fit the news report. They wrote: "When the feed from BBC Breakfast inadvertently cuts to the World News Feed during a report on Concorde, but the original graphics keep going..." And a fourth viewer said: "Does @BBCBreakfast realise its cut to @BBCBreaking and still showing Concorde credits?"

The BBC News broadcast then continued for several minutes and moved on to reports on Oscar Pistorius' new parole bid and the Dublin riots being shown, before the programme returned to Charlie and Naga in the studio. Upon their return, Naga broke her silence to explain the reason for the abrupt change in the broadcast.

As Charlie and Naga were seen back on the studio's red sofa at 8.56am, the presenter told viewers: "You're returning to BBC Breakfast. Apologies, we had an evacuation in the building but we are back now with you to keep you up to date with the latest in news." The pair then continued on with usual programming.

Meanwhile one X user, who's father was due to appear on the show, wrote: "Oh god they had to evacuate BBC Breakfast and cut away from the show ten seconds before my Dad was due to appear on air." They added: "Rather hilarious. What are the odds. The show is back on air now."

Another user replied to them with: "I was getting confused when it cut away to the reporter broadcasting live from Israel & it came up with about 3 different names for him - all having worked on Concorde. It was then that I know something was afoot. Call me Sherlock Holmes why don’t you……"

And then original poster responded: "Same! Worse for me when my dad was moments away from appearing".
