Prince Harry discovered his grandmother, the Queen, was dead when he checked BBC News, according to his new book.

The Duke of Sussex had been in the UK to attend the WellChild Awards in September, when the monarch fell ill.

In a race against time, he boarded a plane and flew north to be at her bedside.

Tragically, the Queen had died before he could arrive to say goodbye.

He has now revealed he discovered the news when he checked the BBC News website, it was claimed in a leaked version of his book.

He revealed in his upcoming book Spare: “When the plane started to descend, I saw my mobile phone light up.

“It was a message from Meg: 'call me as soon as you read this'. I checked the BBC webpage. My grandmother had died. My father was the King.

“I put on a black tie, stepped off the plane into heavy drizzle," he wrote, according to The Sun.

Earlier today it was reported King Charles told not to bring wife to Balmoral on the day the Queen died.

Yesterday it was revealed ordered an RAF plane to leave without as he and other royals rushed to be at the Queen's bedside on the day she passed away.

After hearing the Monarch's health was fading, senior members of the Royal Family took an RAF jet from London to Scotland in a race to be with her at her Balmoral home.

By chance, Harry and wife were in the UK conducting charity visits when they received the call that Harry's grandmother was in her final hours.

And according to a new chapter in an updated paperback version of 'Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors' by Tom Bower, Meghan suggested she should accompany her husband as he travelled to see the Queen.

This morning a Royal correspondent said Prince William is "going to be furious" at brother Prince Harry over his book.

The guest on ITV's also added Harry's attendance at his father King Charles' coronation later this year will likely "be a joint decision", meaning that William could ban him from the event.

Chief Royal Correspondent for Newsweek Jack Royston told GMB hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway that it will likely be up to King Charles, and possibly Camilla, Queen Consort, as to whether Harry and wife will be invited - amid their estrangement from the Royal Family.

While it could ultimately be up to the Duke of Sussex if he attends or not, the Royal correspondent added that Prince William may have a say in if he is invited to the event.
