Tottenham are out to deliver a blow to north London rivals Arsenal by signing the very star who has twice previously snubbed the Gunners.

Brazilian midfielder Raphinha was much sought after following his decision to leave Leeds in the summer of 2022, with Mikel Arteta's club emerging as one of the frontrunners. However, he opted instead to leave for Spain and Barcelona in a £50million deal.

But following a mixed start at the Nou Camp, Arsenal were again linked with a mover in the January transfer window. The speculation was dismissed by representatives of the player though, who insisted the winger was happy at the Catalan giants.

Indeed, the 26-year-old made 36 La Liga appearances during the campaign, scoring 10 goals to help his side to the title. And he's already featured in nine matches this time around, as well as appearing in their Champions League campaign.

However, injury problems have hampered his form and often confined him to a bit-part role. And the emergence of 16-year-old Spanish sensation Lamine Yamal has cast further doubt on his future.

Indeed, according to FootballTransfers, Barca are now prepared to offload Raphinha next summer in light of their ongoing financial issues. And amid a £61million valuation, Spurs reportedly have a "concrete interest" in bringing the 19-cap international back to England.

The fragility of Ange Postecoglou's squad was laid bare before the international break, with his side dropping off the top of the Premier League amid back-to-back defeats against Chelsea and Wolves. Summer signings James Maddison and Micky van de Ven are both out long term, while Richarlison is recovering from groin surgery.

Son Heung-min has also endured an injury scare during the international break, leaving the Aussie boss in dire need of more strength in depth. And Raphinha would undoubtedly be seen as a figure who would boost his attacking options.

The player made his name at Sporting Lisbon and Rennes before signing for Leeds in 2020. Under Marcelo Bielsa, he duly became a cult hero at Elland Road, helping them cement their Premier League status in back-to-back campaigns.
