Harry Kane has given Liverpool transfer target Leroy Sane a glowing endorsement ahead of the January transfer window.

Mirror Football revealed last month that Sane, 27, has been identified as the Reds primary target amid uncertainty over the future of Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian forward is expected to be targeted by ambitious Saudi Pro League clubs again in the summer and Sane would be a natural replacement should Liverpool lose their talisman in the coming months.

Sane, who has previous Premier League experience with Manchester City, has established himself as a key player at Bayern Munich over the past few years. And Kane believes the potent forward has been the club's best player this season.

“He has great pace and outstanding power,” the England captain told Der Rekordmeister, via Get German Football News, at the weekend. “Leroy is probably our best player so far this season. He is fantastic.

“Even today, when it was 2-2 [against Heidenheim], I had the feeling that he was the player who would lift us up again. He is such an important player for us with his skills. Today he made two assists for me again, which is great. I hope we keep this connection.”

Kane's verdict on Sane is unlikely to go unnoticed at Anfield given the Reds strong interest in the Germany international, who has racked up eight goals and six assists in just 11 Bundesliga outings so far this season.

Liverpool are braced for further interest in Salah after knocking back a £150million bid for the 31-year-old in the closing stages of the summer transfer window. And while it remains to be seen if further proposals will materialise in January, it's a given that Salah's services will be in demand again at the end of the current campaign.

Jurgen Klopp, who insisted he was "not worried' about losing his star man back in September, has seen Salah lead by example as the figurehead of his new-look Liverpool side, who head into the international break just a point and a place behind Manchester City.

Salah has plundered 10 league goals in just 12 games this term - over half of the 19 he managed in total last year. He was branded as the "best player in the Premier League" by Brentford boss Thomas Frank at the weekend after scoring a brace in Liverpool's 3-0 win over the Bees.
