Coronation Street boss, Iain MacLeod, has teased what viewers can expect this winter in Weatherfield.

Chesney Brown and Gemma Winter are set to be part of a new storyline, involving Chesney's son Joseph and the latter's grandmother Linda. Yet some longtime viewers may be familiar with the plot as Corrie has taken inspiration from a past Ken Barlow storyline from the 1960s.

Only recently, Joseph has been complaining of a headache with Chesney disbelieving but Gemma agreed to keep him off school. Gemma was left worried as she took him to A&E but was frustrated that nothing was said and no resolution came of it. In upcoming episodes, Joseph's possible ill health leads to Chesney snapping at Gemma, as she keeps him off of school again. Joseph complains his head is hurting again, and Gemma rushes him up to A&E to be checked over.

Speaking to press recently, including the Mirror, Iain teased of upcoming scenes: "Joseph’s fairy godmother turns up in the shape of Linda. She decides that she’s going to fix Joseph’s school troubles, and starts throwing money at the situation, which puts Chesney and Gemma in this impossible quandary." Explaining the dilemma, Iain said: "It doesn’t feel right that Linda is wading in with her chequebook and saving the day.

"But on the other side of it, they have to prioritise what’s right for Joseph, who is having a hard time and could do with the support. It’s a lot of fun in places but we were trying to tell a very realistic story about family dynamics. It’s interesting because Gemma is not Joseph’s biological mother so there are tensions around that – does Chesney side with Joseph and Linda and biology? Or does he side more with Gemma? His relationship with Gemma is quite fractured."

And it looks like Linda will be on the cobbles for a while as Iain teased further: "I suppose the tease I might give is that we are taking the very original story played with Ken Barlow as our inspiration. So inspiration from this dates right back to the 1960s in terms of what happens next and it's all catalysed by Linda's arrival!"
