John Terry showed no mercy when responding to James Maddison's cheeky dig on his Instagram post about Chelsea's 4-1 win against Tottenham.

The Blues recorded a huge win on Monday night after a chaotic game. Dejan Kulusevski opened the scoring for Spurs before Cristian Romero was sent off for a poor challenge on Enzo Fernandez in the box, which allowed Cole Palmer to score a penalty.

Tottenham were reduced to nine men after Destiny Udogie's red card in the second half. Chelsea made the most of their advantage, as Nicolas Jackson scored his first Premier League hat-trick. There were also FIVE disallowed goals during the frantic fixture.

Chelsea legend Terry enjoyed watching the huge win at home and celebrated by dancing with his wife Toni on Instagram. "When Chelsea beat Spurs 4-1 on a school night and the tequila comes out, and you end up dancing and singing on the bar," wrote Terry.

Tottenham midfielder Maddison, who was forced out of Monday night's game with a knock, saw Terry's post and was keen to reply. He rather audaciously wrote in the comments: "Jesus, you have your eyes closed when it was 11 vs 11 (in the) first 15 (minutes) JT?"

Maddison was referring to Tottenham's dominance in the opening stages of the game when Kulusevski scored and Son Heung-min's strike was disallowed for offside. Terry noticed Maddison's comment and was quick to put the Spurs star in his place.

"Don't worry mate you will get used to it," replied Terry. He was referring to Tottenham's poor recent record against Chelsea, with Spurs winning just eight of their 64 Premier League meetings in the 21st century. The Blues have been victorious 28 times.

Although Terry's laughing now, Tottenham's season is going a lot more swimmingly than Chelsea's. Monday night's defeat was Tottenham's first in the Premier League this term. They remain second in the table, just a point behind leaders Manchester City.

In comparison, Chelsea are 10th in the table. The Blues are still nine points behind Arsenal in fourth and 11 points behind Spurs. The two-time European champions have already lost three times at home this season to Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Brentford.

Both teams were placed under new management this summer. Ange Postecoglou has implemented a confident, carefree style of football at Tottenham, while former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is struggling to get a tune out of Chelsea's expensive squad.

In regards to Maddison's fitness, Postecoglou will hope to have the midfielder available for Tottenham's next game at Wolves on Saturday. Maddison is an integral part of their team, having scored three goals and provided five assists this season.

Maddison joined Spurs from relegated Leicester in a £40million deal in June. "He got a knock on the ankle," said Postecoglou when asked about the player's fitness. "We were down one man already. It made sense to make a couple of changes at that point."
