Laura Woods was left in stitches after Les Ferdinand claimed people's priorities in Newcastle are "football, the wife and then work".

Popular host Woods is presenting TNT Sports' coverage of the Champions League this season and was at St James' Park on Wednesday night to watch Newcastle's 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund. Felix Nmecha scored the winner for the Germans.

Woods, Les Ferdinand and Rio Ferdinand discussed the Geordies' passion for football ahead of Wednesday night's fixture. The TV presenter knows a thing or two about Newcastle, as she's dating former Love Island star and local lad Adam Collard.

Les Ferdinand, who played for Newcastle between 1995 and 1997, said: "A couple of guys said to me, 'Football, the wife and then work in that order!' Do you know what I mean? Football just means everything up here and you've got to know that as a player.

Woods and Rio Ferdinand laughed before the presenter added: "What about the wife and work!? But no, I understand what you're saying. It is very, very special to them."

Despite their love for football, Newcastle still slipped to their first Champions League defeat of the season. The Magpies were pitted in the 'Group of Death' alongside Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan, and they've done well to pick up four points so far.

Newcastle now have trips to Dortmund and PSG on the horizon, as well as a home clash against Milan. Manager Eddie Howe said after Wednesday night's game: "It is going to be difficult, but we're in the Champions League. Nothing comes easy.

What did you think about Newcastle's performance against Borussia Dortmund? Let us know in the comments below!

"You know you're going to have to win in some tough places... When you play a team so quickly again we need to work out how we adjust and see if we can go there and get a result. I don't think we deserved to lose today."

Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy both suffered injuries against Dortmund, while Sandro Tonali is expected to receive a huge ban for breaching gambling rules - ending his season and hopes of playing in Euro 2024. That ban is set to be announced on Thursday.

Howe said on injuries: "We've got a small squad as is it. That's probably the most disappointing thing of the night. It looks like a recurrence of (Isak's) groin problem and it's a big blow. Jacob looks serious, potentially a dislocation of his shoulder."

Newcastle's next game is against Premier League rivals Wolves on Saturday before they travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the Carabao Cup. The latter game will be a repeat of last season's final, which finished 2-0 to the Red Devils.
