A vet who was convinced she was being followed by a group of 10 men fled from Blackpool to London before she was found dead in the bath of a hotel with ‘extreme’ wounds.
Ewelina Sasak, 30, had even planned to fly to Poland before becoming too terrified she would be injected with poison mid-flight. She made her reservation at Staunton Hotel in Bloomsbury, central London, under one name only and paid with cash before the owner discovered her ‘pale’ the next morning with wounds a doctor said had been inflicted by ‘violent activity’.
But an inquest at St Pancras Coroner’s Court on Monday, October 23 into the circumstances surrounding Ewelina’s death saw both police and a pathologist declare there were no suspicious circumstances. She was pronounced dead after attempts by emergency services to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.
Assistant Coroner Ian Potter ruled that Ewelina died by suicide and said ‘we can never know’ whether her belief was grounded in reality, but that it was clear she overcome by ‘fear and distress’ before her death.
Speaking outside the court, Ewelina’s parents said their daughter was happy and had recently had a pay-rise in her ‘dream job’. She moved to the UK in 2021 and worked at Moy Vets in Hambleton, Lancashire, after qualifying as a vet in Poland, Wales Online reports. Summarising in his verdict, Mr Potter said text messages showed a situation of ‘apparent despair’.

He added: “In the absence of expert medical opinion regarding Ewelina’s mental health, which it is not possible to obtain after the fact, we will never know the exact facts of that situation and her belief... I reject the notion of accident, and find that on the balance of probabilities Ewelina inflicted these injuries on herself and that she did so with the intention of taking her own life."
Turning to her parents, he said: “All that remains, Ilona and Henryk, is for me to give you my sincere condolences for the loss of your daughter. I can’t begin to imagine the pain and suffering that it has caused for you, and I wish you a safe journey home.”
