Woman says we're all using dry shampoo incorrectly - and when you spray matters

Dry shampoo has a well-deserved reputation for being a game-changing product. Going out with greasy hair isn't the end of the world, but it's so much nicer to leave your house feeling and looking fresh when you've got the option to.

So, for those of us with unruly hair, who know even the most carefully planned hair-washing routine can go amiss, it's great to have dry shampoo on hand for any emergencies or when your hair's not at its best. But it turns out that many dry shampoo lovers have likely been using the product wrong for years, according to one beauty guru.

Posting to Instagram, Rachel Bowling @rachelbowling shared there's a common mistake that lots of people make, and while the influencer regularly delights followers with her hair and beauty tips, this could be her best yet.

The shocking revelation: she reckons it is best to use dry shampoo fresh out of the shower rather than waiting until it's needed. Rachel explained: "The biggest piece of advice I can give you and dry shampoo is to use it as soon as you wash and dry it. This will help absorb the oils as they happen rather than using it to try and cover them up."

In response, commenters were quick to express their shock. "I had no idea," read one stunned reply.

Another said: "Gosh ..soo many peeps use it way later into the week.. geez good tip...." while someone else wrote: "I never knew that. I always use dry shampoo after the second day, just to avoid oil and the flatten look. But thanks ... I will try your tip."

Meanwhile, other fans who have already tried and tested the hack were quick to agree that prevention works better than finding a cure.

"I've been doing this for years and no one ever believed me when I say I haven't washed my hair in a week," one person replied.

A second added: "Yes! I hate to admit how many days I can skip washing my hair when I dry shampoo and style on the first day. But it’s a lot."

And a different person said: "I used to think dry shampoo never worked for me until someone finally told me to put in on clean hair. Game changer."

Another commenter asked: "Do you need to reapply daily after initially spraying, or does it continue to work? I use powder dry shampoo now and have to use daily," and Rachel replied: "I usually only have to use it the first day! I only reapply if I want it to smell good again."
