World Rugby is looking into claims of alleged racial abuse aimed at England's Tom Curry during the World Cup semi-final match against South Africa on Saturday evening.
Curry told referee Ben O'Keeffe that he was called a "white c***" by South African player Mbongeni Mbonambi. In a statement, World Rugby said: "We can confirm that we are formally reviewing the allegation made by England's Tom Curry in relation to the use of discriminatory language during the England versus South Africa Rugby World Cup 2023 semi-final on Saturday."
They added: "World Rugby will not be making further comment until the conclusion of the process."
England have so far chosen not to comment on the incident, but South Africa have started their own investigation.
The alleged racist remark isn't heard on the referee's microphone, but Curry's conversation with O'Keeffe is clear. Curry asked: "Sir, if their hooker calls me a white c***, what do I do?" To which O'Keeffe replied: "Nothing, please. I'll be on it."

Downing Street was asked about the claims during a regular briefing on Monday. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's spokesman said: "It's rightly an issue that needs to be looked at very carefully by World Rugby and we await a response."
Meanwhile, England vice-captain Courtney Lawes has announced that he will retire from the international game after 105 caps.

“I’m not an emotional person really, but it’s just been a huge honour for me. To be able to finish with this group, it’s something I’ll treasure forever.”
