A whimpering husky was brought down by firefighters from a window ledge with the help of treats after the dog became stuck.

Emergency services sprung into action after Coco is believed to have gone through a slightly open window at the house in Tottenham, London and then got into difficulty on the narrow ledge on October 13. As the dog was in anxious state the fire crews felt they had to act rather than wait for back up from the RSPCA and a Met Police dog handler.

They were able to get to the husky that was on a first floor ledge using a large 32-metre turntable ladder and bring her back down safely with the help of dog treats. Leading firefighter Dan Poullais said: "When we arrived at the house, we initially requested the support of the RSPCA and a Metropolitan Police dog handler but we could see the dog was whimpering and we were worried it was going to fall because the ledge was so narrow and it couldn't turn around to get back inside.

"Rather than using one of our standard ladders, we thought the safest option would be to get our 32-metre turntable ladder to the scene so that we could bring the dog safely inside the ladder's cage." Mr Poullais also told how his colleague and dog lover Nick Michael climbed the ladder with dog treats, provided by neighbours, to help bring the husky down.

He added: "(Mr Michael) managed to get a collar and lead onto the dog and safely brought it down to the ground, where it began to calm down. Neighbours reckon the window was only slightly open and that the husky managed to push it up itself before climbing out. We were chuffed to help and the dog was safely returned to its owner when they got home."

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said the incident happened at around 10.20pm on Friday October 13 and was dealt with by firefighters by 11.12pm. They stated: "Firefighters love animals and we are always ready to help distressed or injured animals the last thing we want is for people to risk themselves rescuing an animal but we do encourage folks to ring the RSPCA first and we'll assist if our specialist kit is needed, as in this case."
