A brave ex-cop has been praised online after he stepped in when a seven-foot kangaroo tried to drown his terrified dog.
Mick Moloney went viral on TikTok after shared footage of himself jumping into the river to save his pet Hutchie from the crazed beast, which had been holding the dog's head down in the water. It eventually racked up 2.5 million views before he took it down, it is reported.
But the video has now been shared far and wide across the internet, with many left amazed at how he stood up to the huge marsupial. Mick had been walking along a river in in Melbourne, Australia with his dogs when he noticed Hutchie was missing - and turned around to find the aggressive kangaroo trying to drown the poor pooch.

Mr Moloney confronted the kangaroo (TikTok/milduramartialarts1)He told 7 News Sunrise.: "I saw a kangaroo … with his arms in the water, basically just staring at me... I was like, ‘are you kidding me?’. But when the kangaroo refused to let the dog out of his grasp, Moloney can be seen on the video hitting it in the head and saying: 'I'm going to punch your f*****g head in. Let my dog go". Hutchie was eventually freed in the scuffle, and quickly swam back to be with the other dogs, but the altercation between Moloney and his newfound kangaroo foe continued.
Thankfully, Mr Moloney - who said he is trained in Brazilian jujitsu - walked away from the fight with only a few minor injuries. He was left with a few scratches, and said his "forearm was killing me for most of the day." His willingness to protect his pet however has won him many fans on social media, and one user said: "I'd do the same. Most dog's would protect their owner with their life. No way I would let him get drowned. Would absolutely protect my dog."

According to wildlife experts, kangaroos tend to perceive dogs as a threat to themselves and their mob, and are often seen acting defensively when they encounter them.
