Fans of the BBC Breakfast weekend show witnessed a rare flare of tension between presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt as they argued about the weather.
The presenting duo were on the big red sofa on Saturday morning – with 48-year-old Naga looking striking in a blue outfit while 61-year-old Charlie looked a little subdued in a plain suit. But hints of a feud between the pair crackled as they discussed weekend plans, sports, and weather expectations.
Saturday saw the latest quarter final rounds in the current Rugby World Cup being planned - and Charlie was conflicted about watching the sports while indoors. He explained that he is anxious to sit indoors and watch sport when the weather outside is pleasant and warm.
However, he was hopeful that there would be wind, rain, and cold temperatures on Saturday so he could watch the rugger guilt free. But Naga was quick to rain on his hopes by suggesting there would be sunshine on the horizon instead.
Charlie said on air: “There’s something kind of appropriate. You know when there’s a big sporting occasion and the weather is good and you have a bit of guilt because it’s nice outside but you want to watch the thing and you’re staying indoors.”
Naga Munchetty and co-stars bid farewell to BBC Breakfast colleague amid exitNaga looked distinctly unmoved and shook her head to say: “I feel no guilt.” Charlie then, noting how seasonably chilly it is now the UK is in autumn, continued: “But I don't think that's a worry right now is it.” However, Naga did express her hope and anticipation that the weather in the UK would be sunny.
The duo then cut to weather presenter Simon King who confirmed there would be sunshine - and reminded the hosts that the prior weekend the mercury had reached 25C and a balmy feel. Simon then quipped: “Naga, you’re right as well. Despite the fact it’s going to be colder, there is going to be some sunshine.”
Impressed, Naga then gushed: ”Look at you mediating between us. It's a part of the job isn't it.” Simon then laughed: “I have to keep you both happy, don’t I.”
Saturday has, however, seen flood warnings issued by the Met Office - putting the alerts out in England and Wales. The weather experts said that weather on Saturday would be chilly - with eve the risk of some frost in rural areas.
A statement from the meteorological body said: “Showers will becoming increasingly confirmed to the north and west overnight. Showers falling as snow over the Scottish hills. Dry elsewhere, with clear spells. Chilly, with a rural frost developing in places, particularly in the north.”
The weather for Sunday is expected to be bright and airy, with the Met Office predicting: “There will be plenty of autumnal sunshine with showers largely focused across Scotland. Temperatures below average for the time of year. Generally light winds.”
