The January transfer window has only been open for a day but Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool have already been hard at work.

The Reds sealed the signing of former Manchester United target Cody Gakpo before the window itself opened for a fee which could rise to £45million. Their business appears unlikely to end there, with a central midfielder featuring on their winter shopping list.

A number of names have been linked with a move to Merseyside between now and the end of the month but it remains to be seen if Klopp gets what he desires. With that being said, here are the latest transfer rumours coming out of Anfield over the past 24 hours.

Reds see Caicedo offer rejected

After securing a deal for Gakpo, Liverpool have attempted to add Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo to their January arrivals. Reports from Ecuador, via the Liverpool Echo suggest that the Reds have had a huge £62m bid rejected as they attempt to beat Chelsea to his signature.

Caicedo has regularly impressed for the Seagulls since his 2021 arrival from Independiente del Valle. The 21-year-old has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract. It remains to be seen if Liverpool lodge a second offer between now and the end of the window or elect to move onto alternative targets.

Atletico Madrid eye Firmino

Whilst a midfielder could arrive at Anfield over the next few weeks, one man who could leave the club is forward Roberto Firmino. The Brazilian has fallen down the pecking order this term following the arrival of Darwin Nunez and could see opportunities reduce even further with the signing of Gakpo.

He may potentially seal a move to Spain, with Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid apparently interested. As per Mundo Deportivo, the La Liga giants are eyeing a swoop this summer, when his contract expires.

Talks were suggested to have opened between Liverpool and Firmino over a new deal but as of yet, nothing has been confirmed.

Reds make Amrabat decision

Alongside Caicedo, Morocco star Sofyan Amrabat is another midfielder to have been linked with a move to Anfield this winter and the Reds could be in prime position to secure his services.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Merseysiders are the only club preparing a bid for the Fiorentina man. There are other interested parties tracking him, but the Reds appear to have decided on a swoop.

Tottenham, Barcelona, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid are among a clutch of European clubs taking an active interest in Amrabat.
