Homes Under The Hammer has been airing for over two decades now and is a staple in British daytime television.
During its time, the series has seen an array of presenters giving their expert insight on properties before they go to auction and quizzing the buyers about their plans for renovations. In 2021, the show underwent a shakeup as two new hosts joined the presenter lineup — Tommy Walsh and Jacqui Joseph.
After being announced as a new host for Home Under the Hammer, Jacqui told Morning Live: "I'm so thrilled and excited to be joining Homes Under The Hammer, it’s a series that I've watched for many years. Property and interior design are real passions of mine, so I am really looking forward to meeting buyers and hearing their plans as well as joining what is a fantastic team of presenters." Homes Under The Hammer fans might recognise Tommy from his presenting gig on the hit 90s garden makeover programme Ground Force, but Jacqui has also made a number of TV appearances before appearing on the renovation programme — here's who she is.
Jacqui Joseph is a TV presenter, producer and self-declared "Eco Interior Designer" who has worked on a variety of lifestyle and entertainment shows. She's appeared on ITV's GMTV, Daybreak and Lorraine, as well as Wife Swap: The Aftermath, Hollywood Gossip and the Alan Titchmarsh Show. She also presented Big Strong Boys for the BBC.
Jacqui has an array of DIY and fashion designing talents thanks to her parents. Her father was a decorator and plaster, who she said taught her "how to do everything from wallpapering to tiling and painting and everything in between", while her mother was a seamstress who taught Jacqui to sew. Prior to her TV career, Jacqui worked in the fashion industry for five years and then started her own clothing label, selling ladies and children's clothing to local boutiques and London markets.
Happy Valley's Clare's death 'confirmed' after tragic final exchange with sisterHer love of fashion led her down a path to interior design and interior craft, and in 2020 she secured a role as one of the presenters on BBC's Money For Nothing series, which saw her rescuing items from being dumped and transforming them into valuable pieces. She also makes regular appearances on BBC One's Morning Live to provide fashion tips and home craft tutorials.
On one of her Morning Live appearances last year, Jacqui revealed that she had tragically lost her husband, Andrew, in 2018. In a segment about Marie Curie's National Day of Reflection, Jacqui revealed that Andrew, who she also calls Andy, lost his battle with cancer four years ago.
Speaking to Call The Midwife star Stephen McGann about the grief of losing his dad, Jacqui opened up about her own grief, saying: "Stephen, I don't think you know this but I lost my husband four years ago, in fact on New Year's Day of 2018, and that sense of loss as you say, it doesn't go away at all."
Jacqui had told her fans about the heartbreaking loss of her husband on Twitter back in 2018, writing: “Sorry for the radio silence. My husband Andrew passed away peacefully at home on 1st Jan after an 8-month battle with cancer. I miss him so much...I’ve set up a Macmillan page so please donate to this worthwhile service if you can & feel free to share xx.”
In an interview with Marie Curie, Jacqui opened up further about her husband and his death. She revealed that one of her favourite memories with her late husband was their "fabulous" wedding day. The couple celebrated with both of their big families present, tying the knot at a church in Kensington before having their reception at the Royal Gardens.
Describing how the loss of her husband impacted her, she said: "At first, I couldn't do anything. For months I just sat at home. I didn't contact anyone. But one day something in me switched. I was like, "Come on Jac, you've got to get going now." Andy was my biggest supporter and I knew he wouldn't want me moping around forever."
