Brendan Cole slams Strictly judges over 'wrong' scoring after show 'injustice'

The Strictly Come Dancing judges are "off the chart wrong" with their verdicts on this year's celebrities, according to former show pro Brendan Cole.

Brendan called out the "performance" of judges Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke and Motsi Mabuse, suggesting they were not giving the right feedback to the couples. Commenting that it felt like "two different shows" from what he was seeing and what the judges were seeing, Brendan said the wrong scoring could lead to an "injustice" on the show.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror at the Pride of Britain Awards 2023, Brendan told us on the judges' critique and whether they were getting it right: "No I think they are off the chart wrong. The way the judges are performing at the moment, I think I'm watching two different shows.

"For me you have to be critical, you have to be encouraging. Also if somebody does a bad number, you can't just give it a high mark and go 'well I loved it, it was beautiful,' because ultimately if you give somebody a high number and somebody else goes home over them by you giving them a lower number, just with the way the maths works out, you're doing an injustice to the show. So I've got a lot of critique for the judges, but I don't think it really matters."

Brendan did say he was watching the show though and was enjoying the line-up, while he didn't necessarily agree with people getting a 10 in the early weeks. He admitted: "I've never been a fan of a 10 unless I got one myself. It's one of those things. Everything can always be better but I think the standard is high.

"You have got contestants in there that if you look at Layton Williams for example, he's a phenomenal performer in his own right without Strictly so what he can do is incredible. Then you've got the people that you don't necessarily expect to be amazing and they're really coming through, and then you've got the ones that are slightly less able. I think Strictly needs the range of people to make it work."
