A pair of dogs have been seized after two men were rushed to hospital with serious injuries following an alleged attack in Teesside yesterday.

A 36-year-old man was left with a string of injuries to his head, mouth, fingers and legs, said police, while a 31-year-old man suffered puncture wounds "consistent with dog bites". Both of the victims were taken by ambulance to James Cook University Hospital for treatment.

Detectives have now revealed the appearance of the dogs, which were seized from a property in South Bank, North Yorkshire. One is believed to be an XL Bully while the other appears to be a 'Staffy' or Staffordshire Bull Terrier, but further testing is required to determine the exact breeds.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police told Teesside Live: "One is described as an XL Bully in appearance and the other described as having the appearance of a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Enquiries will be made to confirm the breeds as part of the enquiries."

Two men, aged 30 and 54, were arrested last night in connection with the "serious assault". The force said in a statement: "Officers are appealing for witnesses after two men were left injured following a serious assault on Henry Street in Southbank at around 3:30pm on Saturday 7th October.
