Liverpool dressing room's true thoughts on Nunez emerge after Klopp demand

Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed Liverpool ’s true feelings on the “outstanding” Darwin Nunez with the striker receiving clear instructions from Jurgen Klopp.

The Uruguayan striker has endured a difficult time of things since his summer switch from Benfica. He has scored nine goals in 21 appearances in all competitions for the Reds but has developed a reputation for missing a number of glorious chances.

Nunez has failed to get on the scoresheet since returning to action for Liverpool after the World Cup but has been told by boss Klopp to shut out any external noise regarding his form. Speaking earlier this week, the Reds boss said: “It's all about staying calm. When you see the potential, stay calm.

“It's so difficult in a world we are living in. Because of you (the media) asking and making a big fuss of everything, then the supporters, social media and all these kind of things the more you can shut off that, the better it is."

Now Nunez’s teammate Alexander-Arnold has revealed exactly how the Anfield dressing room feel about the striker and had some complimentary words regarding his start to life as a Liverpool player.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the England defender said: “I think I speak on behalf of all the lads: he’s been, I think, outstanding since he came in. People will judge him on his goals and that’s part of being a striker, that’s part of life.

"But I think he can keep walking off the pitch with his head held high because he is getting in positions that are really, really hurting the opposition. He’s such a threat, he’s getting in behind, he’s holding the ball up, he’s flicking balls on, he’s doing everything that the manager has asked of him. His pressing, his attitude, his desire, you can’t question any of it.

“You’ll get people who will say he’s missed a few chances and he's missed one-on-ones and maybe he should have tucked the second goal away, but he’s getting himself in those positions and when the goals do come I’m sure they will come like London buses!

"We’re just waiting for that but he’s a fantastic lad and he’s an outstanding player as well.”

Nunez will have a chance to score his first post-World Cup goal on Monday evening with the Reds set to travel to West London to take on Brentford.

He is then set to make his FA Cup debut with Liverpool drawn to face fellow Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers in the third round of the competition this weekend.

He faces far more competition for a starting berth now though with the Reds having confirmed the signing of PSV star Cody Gakpo. The Dutch forward has been signed for over £40m after a standout season in the Eredivisie.
