A devoted dad was left emotional on an episode of Grand Designs as presenter Kevin McCloud unveiled his perfect family home.

Danny sold his detached bungalow and was keen for the Channel 4 team to build him an affordable four-bedroom home situated near a forest. The father, who has three children from previous relationships, had a budget of £300,000 in mind for his dream property to be turned into a reality.

Due to his love of nature, the dad admitted he would regularly go fishing in his spare time - and hoped his kids would one day share the same passion for the great outdoors. However, after his wife complained he'd been spending too much time outside - Danny constructed a lake at the end of the garden.

He later wanted to create a space that would give his children a memorable childhood. Sadly, Danny's dreams were hindered when the overall cost to build the home went up by £75,000, due to the rise in interest rates and materials that he had no control over.

After nearly two years presenter Kevin McCloud returned for a final visit. He said "The thing that attracted me to this project in the first place was its ambitions to recreate the experiences of childhood in this glorious place and yet the process of building it was as fraught as you'd expect them to be, driven all the time by Danny's almost military approach, his precision, his focus, his laser like attention to detail.

Danny became emotional when discussing the home and how he wanted it to be a safe space for his children, with tears in his eyes, he told Kevin, "There were lots of elements of my childhood that weren't great, those things shape you and for me to stand here and say 'I'm proud of myself' is important. I've achieved something, I've put a lot of time and energy, part of a big team, to get this done and there's something tangible to say this is an achievement."

The presenter connected with Danny, saying, "This building marks a new beginning for Danny and his children and it promises great things for all of them. I'm pleased he says he's proud of this new home, he should be proud of it, and all it represents. It will help to teach them, nourish them and possibly empower them to follow their own dreams, what more could any parent want for their child?"
