Strictly Come Dancing's Jody Cundy revealed he was rushed to the hospital in the early hours of the morning after noticing a worrying infection.

The Summer Paralympics cyclist and swimmer, who had one of his legs amputated when he was three years old, woke up one morning with an infected leg. Jody explained why he hadn't been able to rehearse with his pro dancer partner Jowita Przystal, 29, for the last two days.

The 44-year-old appeared on Strictly's spin-off show It Takes Two and said he noticed his limb became irritated and swollen when he removed his prosthetic leg. Speaking to Janette Manrara, he said: "It's been a week of highs and lows. The first two days have absolutely flown by.

"At the end of day two we had done the full routine a number of times which I had not done for the previous two dances. I was really confident that I could perfect everything for Saturday. I got home on Tuesday night and took my leg off and was like 'Oh, that's quite sore'."

He added: "I didn't really think too much of it and cleaned it, bathed it and made sure it was all ok. I got up at 4 am and looked at my leg, it was warm, swollen and I was like 'That's getting infected'." He decided to go to the hospital and was prescribed some antibiotics.

Despite the visit to the hospital, his limb was still swollen in the morning and he couldn't put his prosthetic leg back on. "It is healing and getting better. The swelling has gone down a little bit more," he said. Jody and Jowita are still hoping to perform on Saturday night and impress the judges.

Jody and Jowita will be performing the American Smooth to Married Life from Up for Movie Week. Last week, Jody performed the Pasa Doble but failed to impress the judges. He received 16 points for his dance. "I cannot get my left leg and my right leg to do what my brain is telling me, and that is really taxing," he said about the dance.

Jodie had an incredible career and proudly represented Great Britain at seven summer Paralympics and won over eight gold medals, as well as one silver and three bronze medals across the two sports. He also boasts 23 World Championships titles under his belt, including a win at the World Cycling Championships in Glasgow recently.

His journey hadn't been without challenge, however, with Jody born with a deformed foot, which he had amputated at the age of three. Subsequently given a prosthetic limb
