Ange Postecoglou had to take action after Richarlison and Jurgen Klopp were involved in a feisty row during Tottenham's controversial 2-1 win over Liverpool.

Spurs came away with all three points following Joel Matip's 96th-minute own goal, after Liverpool defended excellently with nine-men for almost half an hour. Klopp had seen Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota both sent off, while the Reds were incensed as Luis Diaz was denied an opener by the offside flag.

Replays showed Diaz was clearly onside, and following a VAR mistake not to overrule the initial decision, PGMOL have since admitted there was a "clear and obvious factual error". This has angered Klopp among others, with the Liverpool boss claiming that he has never seen a more "unfair" game.

Klopp was animated throughout the match and it has now been claimed he was involved in an angry war of words with Richarlison. According to Football.London, the Brazilian forward was seen confronting the Liverpool manager, with the the pair going 'back and forth' after a foul near the dugouts.

Following Jones' red card, Richarlison then approached Klopp once more. Postecoglou eventually decided to intervene and urged the attacker away from Klopp to avoid him getting into trouble during an incident-filled affair.

Tottenham took the lead after Richarlison squared the ball across to Son Heung-min to tap home. But that advantage didn't last long as Liverpool equalised on the stroke of half-time through Cody Gakpo, who swivelled and smashed the ball into the back of the net beyond Vicario.

Having seen Jones sent off with the scores locked at 0-0, Liverpool were down to nine when Jota was handed his marching orders for two yellow cards in quick succession. The Reds defended superbly for the last 30 minutes, before Matip diverted the ball into his own net from Pedro Porro's low cross.

After the game, Klopp was furious despite praising his side's performance. He told Sky Sports: "I was never more proud of the team than today. I never saw a game like this with the most unfair circumstances, crazy decisions.

"We scored an own goal, that is really tough to take but I am really proud. The first red card, Curtis steps on the ball and goes over. Not a bad tackle. It looks different in slow motion. He steps full throttle on the ball and goes over the ball. That is unlucky.

"[For Diogo Jota] first yellow was not a yellow. Then he gets a second and to defend with nine players is tricky. You want to build something you need players with mentality and I saw them today, they fought. Pretty special tonight."
