Jose Mourinho has hit back at his critics by claiming to have received the "biggest and craziest offer" in managerial history.

Mourinho is facing calls to be sacked after Roma's poor start to the season. The Italian giants have picked up just five points from their first six Serie A games, losing 4-1 at Genoa on Thursday. Roma take on Frosinone at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening.

Yet a defiant Mourinho told reporters he doesn't "read the papers" or listen to his critics ahead of the Frosinone clash. He's also revealed his huge offer, which reportedly came from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal - the club Neymar plays for.

Mourinho has achieved success during his two-year spell at Roma - winning the Europa Conference League in his first season and reaching the Europa League final in his second - but his team will need to start picking up points if he's to stay in charge.

Mourinho was asked whether he's Roma's problem during his pre-match press conference. He replied: "I don't read the papers, listen to the radio or watch the TV.

"But I have friends, I have players, I have assistants, I have people who, even if I don't want to know, inform me of things. I won't accept it. Because it's not true. I'm not the problem. In football, and in life too, there are multiple factors.

"It's the same when you win: you can't say one person is responsible for it. We all are. Lots of little things are at play in a football club, a business, a political structure, an educational structure, and I know because I've worked in one. It's always multiple factors."

Mourinho has a reputation for only lasting between two and three years in each job. His longest spell in management came during his first stint at Chelsea, lasting 39 months. His previous clubs include Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Tottenham.

Mourinho then referenced his offer, thought to be £500,000-a-week. He added: "Three months ago the idea of me leaving was seen almost as a tragedy. During the holidays, I received the biggest and craziest offer a coach has ever received in the history of football.

"And I turned it down. I did so because I'd given my word to my players, I'd given my word to the fans and I'd given my word to the club owner. Three months later, it seems like I'm the problem. I can't accept that."

Several high-profile managers have been lured to Saudi Arabia in recent times, including Steven Gerrard and Nuno Espirito Santo. Al-Hilal, who also boast the talents of Ruben Neves, Kalidou Koulibaly and Aleksandar Mitrovic, are currently managed by Jorge Jesus.
