A nan has revealed her dismay at being left "red raw" and struggling to walk for a week after using a product she purchased on a trip to Home Bargains.

Eczema sufferer Helen Kavanagh, 71, said she visited the store to find something to treat her dry skin and opted for an "exfoliating heel peel" by Health Point. However, after applying the exfoliant she bought from the chain's branch in Kirkby, Merseyside, Helen was "shocked" by the damaging results.

She explained: "I used it for one hour and I had no skin left on my heels. I was shocked to think that it could have done that. It took the whole of my heel off and it was red raw."

Helen has now issued a warning to others about what happened, adding that she won't be using the product again. "I just think it's my fault for buying it - and when I gave it more thought, I thought it should come off the shelves or carry a warning with it," she told the Liverpool Echo.

The product's description, meanwhile, recommends carrying out a patch test prior to use, advising, "If any itching, rash or reddening occurs do not use the product." It adds that feet "may exfoliate to a higher extent than others."

A Home Bargains spokesperson told the publication it is "happy to work with the customer to attempt to find a resolution". Health Point declined to comment and advised Helen to contact them.
