Guy Martin was shot, kidnapped and tortured in Colombia in a terrifying drug cartel test for his a Channel 4 show.

The 41-year-old has survived a series of death-defying stunts over the years, and has racked up countless injuries, including a broken back, punctured lungs and shattered ribs. However, nothing prepared him for the terrifying adventure he went on for his show, Our Guy in Colombia, as he tried to show the country wasn’t just defined by its infamous drug industry.

Daredevil Guy was taken aback by the violence he encountered as he explored Colombia, as the nation recovers from decades of extreme violence after drug cartels clashed with the government. The father-of-one visits a body armour company, called MC Armor, during the documentary, as he explains two people are kidnapped every week in Colombia, with more than 12,000 murdered every single year.

Guy decides to test out bulletproof clothing, and in one shocking scene, he’s shot in the stomach to see if the armour actually works. “I’ve never been shot. Maybe buggering about with pellet guns, and mucking about, yes. But not proper ammunition. They are not messing about here,” he explained.

Before the owner pulled the trigger, Guy joked: “It’s your idea. So if I die, it’s your fault.” The Grimsby-born thrillseeker miraculously walked away from the encounter with no injuries, and took the crushed bullet home with him as a souvenir. "Thank you, that was amazing. Come to Colombia and get shot,” he laughed.

In another scene, Guy receives the same training that Colombian politicians undergo, in an effort to prepare themselves for being kidnapped, and is left begging for his life. He’s dragged to a torture chamber by ‘gunmen’ and subjected to intense suffering by his tormentors, until he pleads with them to stop after 40 seconds.

“I’ve heard of water-boarding before. You know, you’ve got a mask and you’re chucking water at them, but you’re not drowning . . . that’s what I used to think. Not now,” he shared. “You need that air. I am drowning and I am f***ing talking - what do you want to know? But I’ve still only had a small, tiny, tiny snippet of Colombian violence,” he continued.

His journey in Colombia also included accompanying armed police on drug raids, trying the liquid form of cocaine, as well as being shown the extreme poverty in the country. Despite his tumultuous adventure, Guy would return to Colombia in a heartbeat. “I came here with completely the wrong idea,” he confessed. “So 100 per cent I’ll be back - no question.”
