Callum Wilson has called out Michail Antonio after his podcast no show following West Ham 's loss to Liverpool.

The Hammers forward was unable to power his side to an Anfield victory last weekend as the Reds ran out 3-1 winners, although the contest was in the balance after an hour with Jarrod Bowen getting on the scoresheet for the visitors. Antonio though had a largely forgettable day out.

West Ham's loss was made all the more painful for the forward after he'd claimed that the Hammers would finish about Liverpool this season. There was a 27-point gap between the two teams last term, but Antonio talked up their chances, only to fail to appear for a podcast appearance following the defeat.

Wilson said on ‘The Footballer’s Football Podcast’ on BBC Sounds : “Where’s Michail? Has he run away after his shambles of a performance? If he’d have said that statement and [ West Ham ] had gone and beat Liverpool, Michail would be sitting here tonight under any circumstances.

“The fact he made that prediction, had no goals, assists or shots on target, no aerial duels won, lost the ball 10 times, played 75 minutes before being dragged, for me personally I wouldn’t show my face either.”

Antonio's original comments, predictably, got Liverpool fans talking as a host of them came for him on social media prior to Sunday's loss. West Ham have started the season well, securing a notable win at Brighton, but the loss on Merseyside will prove something of a reality check.

The Hammers have now lost successive games but are firmly in the top half at this early stage of the season. Last term, David Moyes spent much of the campaign fending off the threat of relegation, but have already shown they have taken strides forward.

After the loss the West Ham boss said: "Obviously I’m disappointed that we’ve lost, but when it was 2-1 we were certainly in the game. We gave away a really bad second goal which put us under pressure. We had been under a bit of pressure but we played really well at times in the first half, created chances and scored a really good goal and we were worthy of the draw at half-time."

West Ham got back to winning ways in the Carabao Cup in midweek, seeing off lower league opposition in Lincoln. This weekend they host Sheffield United, who are yet to land themselves a win this season and conceded eight against Newcastle last time out.
