Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has explained why he is “serious” over his previous comments about his son entering the NFL.

Sanders is in his first season as head coach in Colorado after spending the previous two years at JSU. The NFL Hall of Famer has already made a significant impact on the school and the Boulder area since his arrival.

The two-time Super Bowl winner also brought his son, Shedeur, from JSU to Colorado where he is excelling as the team’s starting quarterback. Shedeur is widely expected to be in contention for this year’s Heisman Trophy in NCAA college football.

Shedeur is not the only child of Sanders thriving in Colorado this year. Shilo Sanders, a safety for the Buffaloes, has also been impressing since making the switch from JSU in the off-season.

With both Shedeur and Shilo both impressing at the NCAA level, there has been talk of the duo potentially entering the NFL Draft in 2024. However, Sanders seemingly isn’t that keen on the idea of his sons moving into the NFL just yet.

Sanders attended a Denver Broncos game earlier this month, with behind-the-scenes footage from Well Off Media showing the Hall of Famer alongside his two sons, Shedeur and Shilo, in Mile High City. In the video, Sanders could be heard saying how he expects his sons to remain in Colorado next season.

"Shilo says, 'Shedeur, look, you're gonna be in the NFL next year,'" Deion told the camera. "I said, 'No, he ain't’,” Sanders said, before later adding: "Y'all ain't going nowhere."

Now Sanders has spoken again about the prospect of either of his sons competing in the NFL in 2024. While not giving a definitive answer, the Buffaloes head coach admitted he was “serious” with his previous comments.

"A lot of times you don’t know if it’s serious or we joking," Sanders told . "We just love to have fun. We just allow you in on our private conversations.

“So that’s the way we really act. We just was joking about it, but it was serious." I’m always gonna do what’s best for my kids," Sanders added. "Let’s believe that. So whatever that entails, we’re gonna make the decision that suits them."

Sanders is currently busy preparing his Colorado team for their next game of the season. The Buffaloes face a Pac-12 divisional match-up against No.8 USC, who also have a Heisman Trophy candidate in quarterback Caleb Williams.
