EastEnders' Melissa Suffield slams body-shamer after dancing in her underwear

EastEnders star Melissa Suffield hit out at nasty body-shamers after sharing a cheeky dancing video in her underwear. The Lucy Beale actress slammed someone in her Instagram comments section who made a cruel quip about her "body fat".

The mum-of-one displayed her fabulous figure in the social media clip, wearing a matching black lingerie set as she hit out at the troll. "You cute but your belly fat isn't," commented the cruel user. While Melissa replied: "Wrong, it's cute as hell."

She captioned her upload, highlighting the hate: "Actual DM I received from a faceless account (they’re always faceless, aren't they?) Also, actual DM I laughed at, disregarded, and then carried on living my life in SPITE of."

The 30-year-old added: "I've spoken a bit recently about our 'mean inner voice, but sometimes our mean inner voice actually belongs to someone else, and it's pretty out loud. And it can be really difficult to ignore or brush off.

"Fear of what others might say is a HUGE reason why we feel negatively about our own bodies. It’s why we avoid wearing certain outfits, speaking up, trying new things. The fear of being judged, laughed at, criticised."

Melissa continued: "Let me tell you- you start having a lot more fun once you start acting in spite of the fear. You acknowledge it, you spend your time with it, and then you say F*CK IT. Does a fear of what others might say about your body have an impact on your relationship with it? Share this reel if you’ve got a cute lil belly!"

Fans flocked to defend the beloved EastEnders star, with one writing: "You're gorgeous!! They could NEVER be you babe! Keep slaying!" While another added: "I really can't tell you how much I appreciate seeing a body like mine represented in a positive light like this. Thank you, so, so much."

A third commented: "You're a breath of fresh air." Melissa is best known for having been a cast member on EastEnders. She joined the BBC show as Lucy Beale in 2004, with her the third actor to have played the role.

She remained on the show for six year, bidding farewell to the role in 2010. The character was subsequently recast, before being killed off on the show a few years later in 2014.
