The Rock's mum wants icon to make WWE return amid Wrestlemania speculation

The mum of 'The Rock' is said to be keen for him to come back to the WWE as rumours of a Wrestlemania return gather pace.

The star's stint with the company from 1996 to 2004 has gone down in folklore, with the right time WWE champion's hilarious one liners every it as famous as his in-ring prowess. He eventually departed to pursue a full-time career in Hollywood, with his films grossing almost £9 billion worldwide.

But he has continued to make sporadic returns to wrestling, feuding with John Cena and main eventing Wrestlemania twice between 2011 and 2013. And there was much excitement this year when reports implied he would be entering - and winning - the Royal Rumble to set up a clash with Roman Reigns at wrestling's showpiece event this time around.

The significance of a clash with Reigns would be huge, given the pair are related. In his current storyline, the undisputed champion is currently in charge of his 'bloodline' faction, which also consists of further family members Jimmy and Jey Uso.

However, an appearance at the Rumble never materialised, with Cody Rhodes prevailing instead. According to cagesideseats, despite The Rock, real name Dwayne Johnson, being keen to be involved the relaunch of a spring football league added to his already severe schedule and scuppered matters.

And rumours continue that the 50-year-old will still be involved at Wrestlemania 39. Any run-in would most likely take place in the main event between Reigns and Rhodes, and would likely draw a huge reaction from the crowd.

This year the PPV will again take place over two nights on April 1 and 2 at the SoFI Stadium in California. And to add extra spice to any potential Rock involvement, organisers have dubbed it 'WrestleMania Goes Hollywood' with more than 140,000 fans expected to attend over the weekend.

And wrestling legends returning on the big stage is nothing new. Last year, 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin came out of retirement to defeat Kevin Owens in his first bout for 19 years.
