High school students left baffled as alligator crosses field in training

This is the moment a group of high school students had to stop training after an alligator disrupted their game.

The Ravens of Tampa’s Alonso High School, in Florida, US, were having a practice session when a reptile decided to casually stroll 200 yards across the field.

The alligator also interrupted the fields of tennis, track, and football teams who had to pause their games to let the alligator have a look round.

It then headed towards the stadium after finding a gap in the field's fence before eventually leaving the arena.

Team members uploaded the video to Instagram with the caption: "First a fish falls from the sky, now a gator comes to visit. Looks like it’s time for a new team award!”

Rather appropriately, accompanying the clip was Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" in the background.

It's not the first time an alligator has raided the high school field after a reptile was spotted in April 2021 when a track team were practising.

At the time the team tweeted a picture of the alligator with the caption: "Absent from photo are the Raven athletes whose track speed was never better."

The incident comes after four alligators had to be removed from a retirement home pond in Florida after a reptile killed an 85-year-old woman.

Gloria Serge, from Florida, US, was mauled to death by a 10ft alligator at the gated Spanish Lakes Fairways communities' lakes after she tried to recuse her beloved dog Trooper from being attacked.

Remarkably, the dog survived the tragic incident.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has since cleared the lake of the alligators with Henry, the reptile who killed Gloria, removed and killed by wildlife officials.

Jay Mandelker, president of Spanish Lakes Fairways, has been trying to appease worried residents and confirmed the alligators have since been removed from the pond.

He told TCPalm: "They did so to allay any concerns and to make us realise the precautions we should take with regard to wildlife, alligators in particular.

"If you're walking by a lake, a pond, anywhere in Florida, understand, this is Florida, there could be alligators, so do not walk against the edges of any pond or lake, stay a safe distance away."
